These beautiful flowering vines grow wild in my yard and around the mountain top. They produce cute little squashes that I decorate my yard with. in the fall.

This is probably what they call coyote gourd or coyote melon, Cucurbita palmata. Not edible, but as you say, may be used for decoration.

Thanks for the fun fact Chris. I always wondered what they were called and whether they were edible. The chipmunks and squirrels sure love to eat them. :)

About desertwren
desertwren I'm a writer and an avid nature lover residing in the high desert mountains in southern California. I enjoy this site immensely, especially being able to see so many different parts of the country and world.I'm not the best photographer in the world, and have a very simple digital camera, but enjoy it just the same.
