Queen Anne's Lace with newly opening buds (lower right) and spent flower head going to seed (center, behind fully open blooms). Easy to see how one could get confused as to which flower head is coming or going!

Nice shot of these wildflowers -
probably one of the prettiest
in my book.. I've heard some people
calling them bird's nest weed...

Larry: And Wanda, from Poland, says they are called Wild Lilac there.

Kathy: Thanks for the heads-up. And for posting this ages and stages. The spent flower looks so much like the budding one. Is it my imagination, or are there many more QA Lace this year? Someone has said that the increased CO-2 in the atmosphere will result in more vigorous weeds.

Thank you, Betsy and Lynn, for taking a look! Yes, the budding flowers do look a lot like the spent ones, though there are white petals on the incoming ones that are lost early on in the process of going to seed. Betsy, I don't really know if there are more QAL this year; it's just the time of year when they predominate the wildflower scene. Lynn, I didn't know, but I would suppose people who like visuals would be the majority of those using this very visually-oriented site.

Thanks, James; maybe it is just a good year for them. Every year some things do well and others poorly; I do not know whether which ones fall in which group has any lasting significance.
