Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, May 12, 2008. The Caribbean Sea will remain relatively void of any shower and thunderstorm activity Monday. Instead, typical showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop along the coast of Central America from Nicaragua through Panama. More intense thunderstorms are expected along the Pacific coast of these countries and moderate thunderstorms will spread inland.

A cold front will skirt the northern Bahamas in the afternoon, allowing scattered showers to form.

A high pressure system will extend well into the Caribbean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean. This feature will suppress any shower and thunderstorm develop. Thus, Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico will remain mostly dry.

For South America, a flat ridge of high pressure will push the main storm track well to the south. It will then provide dry conditions for much of Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. Scattered showers will remain possible along the southeast coast of Brazil.

Typical tropical moisture will continue to produce showers and thunderstorms in the northern half of the continent.

Rio De Janeiro will rise into the lower 70s(F)/lower 20s(C), while Buenos Aires will see temperatures in the upper 60s(F)/lower 20s(C). Santiago, Chile will rise into the mid-70s(F)/mid-20s(C).

Killer tornadoes swept through Oklahoma and Missouri, yesterday, killing at least 21 people. Hardest hit were the towns of Picher, OK, where seven died, and Seneca, MO, where ten died. Damage photos I saw from these towns showed buildings swept clean from their foundations, indicative of at least EF-4 damage, and possibly EF-5. Yesterday's deaths brings the 2008 U.S. tornado death toll up to 96--the most tornado fatalities since 1998, when 130 people died. With at le...
