Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, July 10, 2008.

Eastern China, Taiwan, and the Korean Peninsula will continue to see wet weather due to low pressure sitting over eastern China on Thursday. The low will pull tropical air northward from the South China Sea, producing widespread scattered showers and storms across the region. Flooding will be a threat due to the persistent moderate to heavy rain. Meanwhile, a front extending from a system in central Russia will make its way across eastern Mongolia and northeastern China, producing mostly light rain with localized moderate to heavy rainfall. A trough extending from the same system will trigger mostly clouds and light rain across most of Mongolia, while Japan will see scattered showers on Thursday. Southeast Asia can expect the usual monsoon conditions, with the strongest storms occurring in India, Myanmar, and Thailand, while the Middle East will remain dry and hot.

Temperatures will range from the single digits and teens in Mongolia to 20s and 30s across most of the rest of the continent.

In Australia, Victoria and New South Wales can expect wet condition due a cold front that will cross the region on Thursday. A low pressure system will begin to make its way onshore over southwestern Australia, bringing rain to that area in the afternoon and evening hours. The rest of the continent will see dryer conditions due to high pressure.

Temperatures across Australia will range from the mid-20s in the northern part of the continent to the single digits in New South Wales and Victoria.

Among early season hurricanes that have formed before August 1, Bertha is the sixth strongest early-season Atlantic hurricane on record. Only 12 early season major hurricanes have formed since record keeping began in 1851, though several were no doubt undocumented before the ...
