104 Degrees! New record high for 2012 heat wave
Today in Lexington, Ky the high temperature reached an amazing 104 degrees! This is now the hottest we have been since 1936! It is also the hottest day so far of the current heat wave, which began in late June. I knew it was going to be bad this morning when I went outside and it felt steamy, oppressively hot. At about 10 am this morning, the high temp was already about 94 degrees! At about 2:30pm, we reached 103 degrees, which we also reached yesterday, another record-setting day. But today is certainly the peak of the current heat wave. 104 degrees is simply unheard of here in modern times. And what makes it all the more historic is that is the climax of an already historic heat wave. This is the 7th day we have broken records in Lexington. Thankfully, we are due for some relief this week, but I am worried that the dry pattern will continue through the rest of the month and August. I hope I am wrong. I have a sneaking suspicion that these crazy high temps might make a return in August, as that is also a notoriously hot month for Lexington. At any rate, today is a day I won't soon forget, and will certainly go down in history!
