.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that a big thumper started back in the mountains a bit to the north of Los Mochas last evening and moved west toward the coast. Entering the Sea around dark the storm moved out into the Sea expanding southwest toward La Paz and north toward Guaymas. During the night the outer fringes reached the Baja coast. Here in the cove between 1am and 3am we had gusts in the 21-27 knot ranges. Since then we have had mostly 10-12 knot breezes with an occasional spike a bit higher. I’m sure the spikes kept folks here in the cove sleeping with one eye open.
The morning most of the Baja coast from around Mulegé are seeing remnant clouds from this system. The Guaymas/San Carlos area south to Mazatlan same thing with remnant clouds blanketing the area. The storm itself has been on the wane since around 3am. We should see these clouds start to dissipate later this morning.
That’s what is happening in the Sea. Looking south to the Mexican Riviera this morning I can see that there were a few small squalls along the coast south to the Tehuantepec. There was a nice thumper that sat over Puerto Vallarta for a while last night dumping a bit over 2 inches of rain there.
Looking further south I can see that where that Tropical Wave is southwest of Acapulco it is a hotbed of thunderbumper activity. Even though a low is developing within the wave and its forecast to develop slowly over the next couple of days the good folks at the National Hurricane Center are only giving it a 10% chance of becoming cyclonic during the next 48 hours.
The rest of the zone out to around 120 just has moderate convection building this morning and the rest of the Eastern Pacific basin is pretty much clear out to Hawaii this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where Portland and Seattle are again having afternoon showers.
The rest of the west coast is experiencing very mild weather. Not even Redding will see temperatures in the 100s over the next 5 days.
Southern California has a weak trough off shore that is keeping the southland gusterly in the mountains and deserts for the next couple of days. I don’t think they have a name for July like Grey May and June Gloom but that’s happening along the southern California coast today and into the week.
In general it will be quiet week weather wise along the west coast.
Looking now over to the southwest where today will be rather “Ho Hum” with just a few thunderbumpers in the higher elevations. This image is showing the storms moving up from Sonora were stopped at the Fence last night.
Looking at the water vapor image I can see the moisture laden trough moving up into Chihuahua this morning. This will be the genesis for the heavy thunderbumper activity in the southwest tomorrow and tomorrow evening. Because of the intensity of these storms tomorrow flash flooding is a major concern. The real weathermen are still thinking the there won’t be much moisture left in the region on Thursday but have left a chance of showers and thunderbumper in the forecast.
That’s what is gong on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the entire Sea will see brisk to strong southerlies today. The strongest in the far northern Sea and along the Sonoran coast to around Guaymas/San Carlos today.
The northern and central Sea to Concepción Bay will continue to see these strong southerlies over the 3-day forecast period. Puerto Escondido south will see diminishing southerlies to be in the moderate ranges.
The southern Sea will continue to see light to moderate SW winds over the 3-day forecast period.
Temperatures today in the mid to high 90s
