Wow!
If you haven’t been around on Parade Day before, both 101 and 34 shut down for the parade and traffic is really slow both before and after. The parade comes West down 34 from the high school, turns South on 101 at the stoplight and ends at Grand Central Pizza. It’s hard to park in town. That’s why I’m coming down early. I’ll get the car parked and Tempus can ride down on his bike, later.
It’s 54F already and supposed to go up to 72. The computer says it’s clear, but there’s some kind of cloud obscuring the sunlight at the moment, even though the view through the skylights is very blue.
A chickadee just dropped directly out of the clematis onto the bird feeder. That was a little startling, and there’s a grosbeak in the planter.
No time for the garden this morning and I’m hoping that since Tempus is going to come down on his bike he’s going to pick the rose petals.
Tempus spent most of our ½ hour outside before we headed for the shop yesterday yanking up escaped rugosas… If you want some and yell quick, the ones he pulled up will still be viable today, and I can get them into water for you. I did a little weeding in the pinks and was going to start in the dug up spot, but it’s still too wet. Maybe late this evening…or maybe Sunday night….
Tempus got going on sorting out and setting up the back of the shop early on, but then had to run some errands. Marius worked with him and Willow on his techniques for doing the pictures and we ran several sets during the day, trying to get the lighting right. Except for the “foot puddles” from shadows below skirts we’ve got that sorted out. …and those vanish with the foregrounds that I put together for the picture…although the bright yellow sandcastle was startling. I’m going to fix that…..
Fawkes drove down and visited for a while. He had some things to drop off for various people and it was awfully good to see him. It was also his last day with the car he’s been using, so he figured he’d come down to say hi, since he missed us all, too.
I finally got to print some flyers and gave batches to Willow and Marius and Tempus is going to put some around Waldport. I have a picture that I’ll be putting up on Facebook once I get down to the shop
We didn’t get as far as getting into the garden. It was almost dark when we got in and 10:30 before we finished supper and then we went right to bed.
So…heading out, now! See you at the parade!
The shop opens at 10 today. Summer hours, 10am-7pm, Wednesday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!
Love & Light,
Anja

NASA Science News for June 15, 2012 - A question has been troubling astronomers: Why won't the supernova explode? While real stars blow up, computer models of massive dying stars do not result in much of a bang. NASA has launched a new observatory named "NuSTAR" to seek out the missing physics of stellar explosions. FULL STORY: http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-na sa/2012/15jun_nustar/

DOUBLE CME: Active sunspot AR1504 is facing Earth and hurling coronal mass ejections (CMEs) in our direction. A fast-moving CME that left the sun on June 14th is expected to scoop up another CME already en route and deliver a double-blow to Earth's magnetic field on June 16th. Weak-to-moderate geomagnetic storms are possible when the clouds arrive. Check http://spaceweather.com for images and updates.

Today
The Moon is a waning crescent. Waning Moon Magick - From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity. Hecate’s Brooch – 3-5 days before New Moon – Best time for Releasing Rituals. It’s the last few days before the new moon, the time of Hecate’s Brooch. This is the time that if you’re going to throw something out, or sweep the floors, or take stuff to Good Will, Do it! Rid yourself of negativity and begin the letting go process. Phase ends at 8:02pm on Sunday.
If you're awake in early dawn Sunday morning, look low in the east-northeast for the thin waning crescent Moon close to Jupiter. As dawn brightens look for Venus 9° to Jupiter's lower left. Bring binoculars.
Every morning, Jupiter and Venus are getting higher and easier in the dawn. Venus (magnitude –4.3), after transiting the Sun on June 5th, is now deep in the glow of dawn. Look for it low in the east-northeast before sunrise. Don't confuse Venus with Jupiter to its upper right. The two planets are 9° apart on the morning of June 16th and 6° apart on June 23th. Below or lower right of Venus twinkles much fainter Aldebaran; use binoculars as daybreak brightens. Jupiter and Venus, the two brightest planets, are on their way up for a grand showing in the morning sky this summer.

Celtic tree month of Duir Oak - Jun 10 - Jul 7 - The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word "robust"). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Quotes
How beautiful a day can be when kindness touches it! - George Elliston
How far high failure overleaps the bounds of low success. - Lewis Morris
I have come to the conclusion that the major part of the work of a President is to increase the gate receipts of expositions and fairs and bring tourists to town. - William Howard Taft (1857-1930) US President (27)
I think books are like people, in the sense that they'll turn up in your life when you most need them. After my father died, the book that sort of saved my life was Gabriel García Márquez's novel One Hundred Years of Solitude. Because of that experience, I firmly believe there are... books whose greatness actually enables you to live, to do something. And sometimes, human beings need story and narrative more than they need nourishment and food. - Actress Emma Thompson
I don't need the primrose, or the blood of the vine;
I am drunk on negation, not on affirmation.
I am a hawk, I love to catch living prey;
I don’t circle like a vulture around corpses.
Vulture, come here quickly! Dare to become a hawk!
Pitch "vulturehood" into the cauldron, become pure.
Then give up even the attributes of the hawk,
Soar higher and transform your essence. - Jalal-ud-Din Rumi (Translated by Andrew Harvey from A Year of Rumi)

Magick – Litha
Hotogov Mailgan - 6/22 Today's Goddess: White Nights (Russia)
Themes: Sky; Tradition; Arts Symbol: Pale Light
About Hotogov Mailgan: In Siberia, Hotogov Mailgan illuminates the night sky with her heavenly sparkle. She is the Queen of the Sky, a creative force for personal empowerment, and the manifester of the life energies in and around us.
To Do Today: Between June 21 and June 29 the skies in Russia always appear light gray at night because of the northern location. The effect throughout St. Petersburg is very magical, casting unique shadows on the lavender, pink, and yellow pastel-colored buildings. To celebrate this beauty, the citizens enjoy traditional Russian ballets, theatrical performances, and music. So, get out the theme music from Dr. Zhivago, rent a ballet featuring Barishnikov, or cook yourself up some Russian dumplings (varnekey) and invite this goddess to join you.
If you perform any magic today, try putting up some pastel-colored curtains around the space to filter the outside light so it suits Hotogove Mailgan. Or darken the room and use glow-in-the-dark stars to mark the magical circle so you're literally surrounded by her power.
Try taking a bubble bath and dotting the surface of the water with glitter to look like Hotogov Mailgan's night sky. Then sit, relax, and meditate, absorbing the hopeful, dreamy energy that her stars inspire in people everywhere.

Silliness - GCF: Hashing It Out
I was working as a short-order cook at two restaurants in the same neighborhood. On a Saturday night, I was finishing up the dinner shift at one restaurant and hurrying to report to work at the second place, but I was delayed because one table kept sending back an order of hash browns, insisting they were cold. I replaced them several times, but still the customers were dissatisfied.
When I was able to leave, I raced out the door and arrived at my second job. A server immediately handed me my first order.
"Make sure these hash browns are hot," she said, "because these people just left a restaurant down the street that kept serving them cold ones."
